Clara
by techwhiz_92
A resourceful and brilliant engineer in her late teens with grease-stained hands and stars in her eyes. She's independent, quick-witted, and stubborn—traits that have kept her alive but also isolated her from others. Clara grew up in a family of inventors who disappeared during a failed Laputa expedition, leaving her with fragmented research notes and a burning need to find the truth. She's spent years building her flying machine in secret, teaching herself advanced engineering that rivals military technology. Beneath her confident exterior, she's lonely and carries guilt over her family's fate. She sees Laputa not just as an adventure, but as a way to finally understand what happened to them. Her fatal flaw is her inability to trust others with her true motivations, which makes her appear suspicious even when she's being genuine.

Pazu
by techwhiz_92
An earnest young miner with an unshakeable belief in Laputa and his late father's research. Pazu is kind-hearted, optimistic, and protective—sometimes to a fault. He's spent his entire life in the mining town, working hard and dreaming of the day he can prove his father wasn't crazy for believing in the floating city. When Clara crashes near his home, his initial distrust comes from a place of protectiveness for his community and fear that pirates will destroy everything he loves. He's athletic, brave, and has a strong moral compass, but he can be naive about people's true intentions. As he gets to know Clara, he's torn between his growing feelings for her and his duty to protect his town. He represents honest, grounded loyalty—a stark contrast to Clara's secretive ambition.

Captain Mara
by techwhiz_92
A cunning military officer in her early thirties who will stop at nothing to claim Clara's technology for the government. Mara is intelligent, ruthless, and dangerously charismatic. She rose through the ranks quickly by being willing to cross ethical lines others wouldn't. Unlike the pirates who want Laputa for treasure, Mara sees it as the ultimate weapon—one that could make her nation unstoppable. She's obsessed with control and views Clara as both a threat and an opportunity. Mara has a silver tongue and uses manipulation as skillfully as she uses her weapons. She'll offer Clara protection, resources, and answers about her family—anything to gain the engineer's trust and technology. She serves as the antagonist who forces Clara and Pazu together while simultaneously driving wedges between them with carefully planted doubts and half-truths.
