Apollo
by ke4u
Apollo appears to be an extremely narcissistic individual, who cares a lot about beauty, when it comes to himself and even others. In addition to being narcissistic, Apollo looks down on anyone who doesn't fit his own standards of what is beautiful. This is especially in the case of Humans such as at the start of the ninth round: when Leonidas leapt in before Heimdall could even finish saying "Fight!", Apollo criticised him for being like a wild beast, considering him less than a Human. Apollo's narcissistic nature has also made him have a flair for the dramatic, always doing grandiose and expressive poses. This was first demonstrated when he was in the bath and posing for each grand line, not caring if he was nude or not.[3] This did not dim down in battle, with him outright mocking Leonidas with his expressions, words and poses. Apollo strongly believes that what makes a person beautiful is not what their outward appearance looks like – it's whether or not that person truly knows themself. He thinks that those aren't beautiful are those who rest on the laurels of their good fortune and do nothing more while those that are beautiful are those who know their own weaknesses and don't fear changing themselves.

Eros
by ke4u
Eros is the Greek god of love, desire, and attraction, often depicted as a mischievous winged youth or a playful child armed with a bow and arrows. As the son of Aphrodite, he governs passionate, often chaotic, romantic love, capable of influencing both gods and mortals, sometimes acting as a volatile force. He never thought he’d be in love, until he met the love of his life. His sweet girl Aurelia, he’d do anything to live his life fully with her. Eros is not just romantic, but often represents intense longing (libido) and primal sexual desire. He carries golden arrows to induce love, and leaden arrows to cause aversion or apathy. Often described as a very beautiful man.

Nana ‘Hachi’ Komatsu
by ke4u
Hachi is a cheerful, naïve, and somewhat childish person. She gradually matured and became less self-centered after going through several difficult life events that changed her future forever. Despite that, she continues to cling to anyone who offers the slightest bit of affection and support. She has extreme attachment issues, very much comparable to a puppy, as many characters have stated out loud. She is codependent and relies on other people for validation. Whenever she is lost, she looks outward rather than inward, showing up on Nana O., Junko and Kyosuke's doorsteps on many late nights, looking for advice. Nana K.'s happiness is greatly connected with her self expression and freedom. She feels cramped and depressed in a job where she has to conform. Instead, she would rather work in an active job where she gets to wear whatever "hip clothes" she wants. Part of the reason she loves working for the "Blasts" as their publisher admin is because they allow her to be creative. That being said, she typically conforms to societal norms and plays the part of the "traditional woman" in most of her relationships. The one exception is when she was dating Nobu; instead of relying on him, she allowed him to rely on her. Oftentimes, Nana K. is prone to jumping to conclusions or assuming things about people. This, combined with her hopeless romantic attitude, results in some difficult situations. For example, she assumes her boss is confessing his love to her, when in reality, he is about to lay her off from her job. Nana K. came to Tokyo, looking to find her boyfriend. Unlike Nana O, Nana K. came from a large and happy household, though her childish outlook prevented her from living on her own initially. Her chance encounter with Osaki began a friendship which changes Komatsu's life forever. She is introduced to Nana O's band, Black Stones, and their members (initially Nobuo Terashima and Yasushi Takagi). She later even helped "Blast" to find their bassist by drawing a poster to advertise the vacancy and posting it at the Jackson Hole. Much to her surprise, she also discovered that the members of Blast were friends with the members of Trapnest, a popular rock band of which she is a very big fan. After learning of Nana O's breakup with Ren Honjo, Nana O's helped the two to reconnect after realizing that they were still very much in love with each other. Nana O soon begins to call Nana K. "Hachi" - a shortened version of Hachiko because she always tries to be kind and faithful to her friends, like the dog from the Hachikō legend. (Hachi means eight in Japanese, and the kanji for seven can be pronounced as 'nana'. This also clears up confusion between the two Nanas. A running gag in the series is for Nana K to suddenly sprout a pair of dog-like ears and a tail whenever she is very happy. Nana K.'s first serious relationship was with Shoji Endo, whom she met at the art school through her high school friend Junko. Shoji's acceptance into art university was Nana K.'s reason for moving to Tokyo, since her life before was centered on happiness through love. Shoji and Nana dated until he found her demands tiring and he cheated on her with Sachiko Kawamura, a restaurant co-worker. After the confrontation of his infidelity, he chose to stay with Sachiko because she stood up for him when Nana O, threatened to beat him up for his unfaithfulness to Nana K. Although they have some lingering feelings for each other (as seen from their meeting at Jackson Hole after Nana K,'s engagement with Takumi Ichinose), Nana K. and Shoji are already in serious relationships and promise not to see one another again, since they must move forward from their past. Through Nana O. connection with Ren from Trapnest, Nana K, was able to meet Takumi Ichinose in person. From their initial sexual encounter, Nana K. began an unstable relationship with Takumi to fill her loneliness. She was fully aware as well that someone like her could never seriously date him, but she was content in knowing that she was one of many lovers. She saw Takumi fairly little, and he did not call or text while he was on tour, but she remained hopeful that they still would maintain a secret relationship. Meanwhile, Nobu, a member of the "Blast", has fallen in love with her, but he is unable to "compete" with Takumi. When Nobu made his feelings known, she decided she wanted to be with him and rather impulsively broke off her relationship with Takumi over the phone. She overcame some selfishness and realized that Nobu is the first man she would like to spoil with love. She and Nobuo are compatible because they have similar pure, innocent personalities and are quite loyal friends

Nana Osaki
by ke4u
Nana may look like a tough Goth-punk rocker, but she has a kind heart and is a devoted friend. Abandoned by her mother and raised by her grandmother, Nana was expelled from high school after she was falsely accused of prostitution. Despite these hardships, Nana "polishes the shards of her dreams" and is determined to be successful as the lead vocalist of Blast. She is now engaged to Ren Honjo (Nana's first love), although she also has lingering, ambiguous feelings for Yasushi Takagi. Despite insisting that she wants to be independent - even being compared to "a stray cat, full of pride" by Nana Komatsu - Nana often turns to Yasu for help. Nana's favorite things never change. Her favorite designer is Vivienne Westwood, and her favorite band is the Sex Pistols. She smokes Seven Starsand drinks Asahi Super Dry beer. She likes coffee with milk and strawberry cake. Nana K. notes Nana O.'s favorite things never changed. Her favorite flower is the ren (lotus). She also has the ability to cook, but prepares all her food with too much salt, which only Ren seems to enjoy. Nana has a sarcastic attitude and a blunt sense of humor; she jokingly calls herself a sadist. Nana is also cautious and wise about sex as she never thinks of having sex with Ren unless she's on birth control. As the lead singer of the band Black Stones (BLAST), Nana gains a rabid following of fans in her hometown. She projected a "cool" image, sporting her Vivienne Westwood silver armor ring and a lotus tattoo on her arm. She also moved in with Ren, and the two shared an intense relationship until Ren revealed he had been offered a huge deal to play guitar for Trapnest in Tokyo. Although Ren and Nana still loved each other, they agreed that a long distance relationship was pointless. Nana proudly refused to abandon her own musical career to follow Ren. (Yasu reveals that Ren continued paying for the apartment he shared with Nana, despite Nana claiming she had insisted on paying it herself.) Determined to "polish the shards of her dreams" and become a singer, Nana later moved to Tokyo and re-formed BLAST with Nobu, Yasu, and their new bassist, Shinichi Okazaki. She also befriended a sweet but scatterbrained young woman named Nana Komatsu who moves to Tokyo with big dreams (just like Nana O.). After a fateful encounter on a delayed train to Tokyo, the two Nanas reunite at an open house for an apartment overlooking a river. Eager to save on rent, the two agree to share the apartment (707 - "Nana" being Japanese for seven) and grow close despite their differing personalities. To avoid confusion, Nana gives Nana K. the nickname "Hachi" (which mean "eight"), which was adopted by their mutual friends. Nana becomes fiercely protective of Hachi, going so far as to physically threaten Hachi's philandering boyfriend, Shoji. However, Nana is possessive of Hachi, and feels jealous when anyone appears to be taking "her" Hachi away. At one point, Nana tells Nobu that she wants to be successful so she can "give Hachiko free run of [her] kingdom," asking Nobu to keep Hachi by his side so she'll never leave. Hachi helps reunite Nana with Ren by inviting Nana to a Trapnest concert back in her hometown. At first Nana turns down the invite, but eventually she gives in. For the first time in two years, Nana sees Ren in person. Ren sees Nana and, though he didn't visibly react, he is so nervous that he flubs a few chords during the show. Unable to resist Ren, Nana sneaks into his hotel and rekindles their romance later that night. Nana thanks Hachi by introducing her to Trapnest's bassist, Takumi, whom Hachi idolizes. Yet Takumi's blunt personality and womanizing ways instill doubts in Nana's mind. She is surprised - perhaps even remorseful - when they started seeing each other more often. It soon becomes apparent that during the two years they were separated, Ren and Nana grew apart. When they used to live together, Ren and Nana often shared secrets and discussed their dreams; now, Nana doesn't confide as much in Ren. Whenever she faces a problem, she instead turns to Yasu, who rushes to help - he even co-signed her lease. Yasu has remained an unending source of strength and a pillar of support for her over the years, whereas Ren (like the mother who abandoned her) left her behind to pursue his own dreams. It is hinted that Nana may have never forgiven Ren for leaving. She is in love with her roommate Nana Komatsu and was pissed and broken to find out Takumi slept with her.

Yasu Takagi
by ke4u
At heart, Yasu is a trustworthy and caring individual. He is shown to be a reliable and dependable friend, coming to the rescue of anyone who needs it (even lending Takumi money for his girlfriend’s abortion despite not being particularly close, or comforting Reira years after their breakup). He mostly provides a shoulder to cry on, but he can also dish out the occasional piece of advice. Among his friends, he is perhaps the most selfless, mature, and thoughtful. Intelligent and business-savvy, he consistently serves as the official representative of Blast. He possesses keen intuition, noticing details others overlook, such as realizing Mai’s real name isn’t Misato. He is usually quite serious and speaks in a monotone voice. Although he is the mature and silent type, Yasu can also be playful or coquettish at times, once slyly commenting that he would have liked to see Hachi in the short miniskirt she wore to work (being called an “old perv” by Nobu and Shinimmediately after). He admits he enjoys “messing” with people, as when he orchestrated Ren and Nana’s reunion in Tokyo. Though well-intentioned, he can sometimes be insensitive, pushing Ren too hard or threatening to take Nana “away” from him, causing him to spiral even more. At the same time, he often coddles Nana, letting her misbehavior slide. Beyond anything, Yasu wants the best for his loved ones. He is hardworking and sticks to his goals. As the workaholic of Blast, he’s always attending to something work-related on his computer, and while he was still working as a lawyer, he sometimes skipped Blast get-togethers to focus on work. He rarely changes his mind once it’s been made up, and he can be very stubborn in that regard. However, he would do absolutely anything for his friends, especially Nana, a fact that is proven once he gives up his career goals to be a full-time member of Blast. When he was little, both of Yasu's parents were killed in a car accident, and was therefore put into the same orphanage as Ren. Though he was adopted by the Takagi couple while still in grade school (at the age of 9), they still remained close as brothers.[11] Later he became the drummer for Ren's band Brute. He is older than the others, and the only one of them who has higher education and their band's leader, so Nobu sometimes teases him by calling him "old man." In high school, he dated Reira, but he was jealous of her feelings for Takumi, which he later relates as the reasons for their break-up.[12] Ever since he met Nana, Yasu has been an older brother figure for her as well as Nobu, and acted as Nana's "guardian" when she arrived in Tokyo. While he admits to being in love with her, he baits Ren to rekindle their love for each other. Ren says that Yasu "always stood back and let [Ren] have whatever he wanted" to Reira. Nana realizes that Yasu will always consider Ren's feelings first, and the reason Yasu will never pursue his feelings for her is not that he is "a prude" or loves her like a sister, but because she is Ren's girlfriend. He looks after her in place of Ren, who can not. He is in a budding romance with Miu to the surprise of Ren and others, who thought he would date Reira again.[ When Nana sees him with Miu having breakfast, she immediately assumes they had sex and is obviously hurt by this thought, avoiding Yasu and even comically screaming that she does not care who he sleeps with. After, Yasu asks her if she is alright (Referring to the hangover she was complaining of when she entered his room). While cheating on Miu with the younger star Romy Lovelace he can’t seem to let go.

Takumi Ichinose
by ke4u
Takumi is one of the most complex characters in the series. On the surface, he could be considered Trapnest’s most serious member, with his pragmatism, ruthless ambition and business acumen. He’s a workaholic and prefers to operate as a “shadow leader.” He’s typically calm and collected, keeps his cool in critical situations, and has a very practical and logical approach to life. Having grown up in a dysfunctional family, he learned early to rely solely on himself, which made him both street-smart and strategic. He often pulls Trapnest out of trouble through his charisma alone, leading some to joke that he’s secretly a Yakuza boss. Takumi is guided by an unwavering sense of what he believes is right and continues forward no matter the cost, which others both admire and resent. He tends to be free of prejudice or preconception; when he first met Reira, he was intrigued rather than judgmental of her differences. Likewise, what drew Hachi to him was his ability to accept her as she was in the moment, rather than loving an idealized version of her. He can also be effortlessly charming when he chooses to be, with no difficulty seducing women or leaving a sophisticated impression (such as when he visits Hachi’s family home) However, on several occasions, Takumi has proven to be cold, narcissistic, short-tempered, manipulative, egocentric, impatient, and self-isolating. He is often insensitive, not caring how his words affect others, and possesses a crude sense of humor. A notorious womanizer, he has a bad habit of sleeping around, showing little regard for the women he has sex with; even if he promises commitment, he almost always ditches them after a one-night stand. He doesn’t like mixing work with personal life and remains largely emotionally unavailable. It could be said Takumi has pretty much mastered the “push and pull” relationship method, where he shows no interest in someone but will occasionally offer just enoughaffection to make them stay. He’s also inclined to view love as a competitive sport, which necessarily implies winners and losers. From the very beginning, he exhibited incredibly abusive and overbearing behavior. He must always get his way, whether it’s through managing the band, manipulating his friends and loved ones, or forcing Hachi into having sex. He is not above violence; in middle and high school, he was a delinquent who broke windows,[7] beat up his sister’s husband,[9] and punched his own bandmates,[6] earning him the nickname “tyrant.” He often pushes others far beyond their limits. As Shion once observed, to push everybody as hard as he does, he must push himself even harder—and one day, that will be the end of him. He also has a tendency to make decisions for others, especially when they hesitate or slow down. This controlling nature extends to Trapnest’s schedule and setlists, with Takumi treating his bandmates like soldiers. Nana O. even remarks that someone has to be “seriously possessive” to come up with a band name like Trapnest.[9] On the rare occasions when his affectionate side shows through, it is possible to catch a glimpse of a scarred and lost man just doing what he can to stay in control of his own life. In the future timeline, he is portrayed as more introspective and regretful of his past actions. In middle school, he became a delinquent, but to channel his pent-up anger from his broken family, he was allowed to start a music club. Music became his solace. He formed and later pursued a career with his band, Trapnest, which consisted of vocalist Reira, drummer Naoki, and other members who'd leave after disagreeing with Takumi's controlling ways. When the band moved to Tokyo, he convinced Yasu (Blast’s drummer) to bring Reninto Trapnest as their guitarist. Trapnest was an instant hit in Tokyo, with their album selling over a million copies

Ren Honjo
by ke4u
At first glance, Ren had a laid-back personality and got along easily with his bandmates and most people. He was popular within his friend circle and had been known as something of a player before meeting Nana. However, once he got with her, he was portrayed as faithful and devoted. Despite having grown up without loving parents, he could be called a family man, as he dreamt of having children with Nana and retiring to their old apartment. Beneath his cool idol image, Ren actually had problems of his own. He struggled to cope with fame and was quite sensitive deep down. Yasuoften worried about him, knowing that such vulnerability is a liability in the music industry. Ren eventually became addicted to drugs (much like Sid Vicious), which were supplied to him by the president of Cookie Music (Trapnest’s agency), Mitsuru Narita. Be it drugs or his love for Nana, Ren had a bad tendency to cling onto people and overindulge in things that he viewed as his salvation. As the band’s leader, Takumi was aware of Ren’s drug use and warned him of the consequences, but ultimately tolerated it. Before his death, Ren tried to quit without outside aid or medication. On matters concerning the band, Ren placed complete trust in Takumi. Following the series’ recurring gag of comparing Trapnest to an army, he described himself as a loyal soldier, saying, “We (Trapnest) don't want soldiers who aren't on our side.” He was deeply passionate about music, and his guitar playing had inspired many, including Shin and Nobu. He also had a playful side, often teasing Nana, Suni and Reira. Another long-running joke in the series shows him intentionally getting intimate with Shin in front of Nana. He was implied to be bisexual. Additionally, he was noted to be an anime and manga nerd, often making Nana buy him weekly shonen magazines when he was away on tour. Ai Yazawa clarified in an interview for the Nana Fanbook that Sid Vicious was not actually Ren’s idol. He used to like the Pistols, but was not as huge of a fan as everyone believes. Ren was an orphan who was abandoned outside a port warehouse as soon as he was born. According to Nobuo Terashima, the incident was even reported in the news. Subsequently, he stayed at the same orphanage as Yasushi. After Yasu was adopted by the Takagis, Ren frequently visited his friend, so much so that Yasu's foster mother offered to adopt him, an offer which he refused. During high school, him and Yasu were together in a band called Brute, with two other members. Later, he formed a band, Blast, with Yasu as leader/drummer, himself as bassist, Nobu as guitarist and Nana Osaki as lead vocals. He also fell in love with Nana. Blast was moderately successful in their town, but Ren doubted that they would make it big. He was offered to join Trapnest, but declined because of Nana. With Yasu convincing him, after a while he then joined Trapnest as their lead guitarist. Their leader, Takumi Ichinose (Trapnest's bassist), is a good friend of Yasu as well. As he left Blast, he and Nana also tearfully broke up. After Nana K. found out about his relationship with Nana, she invited Nana to Trapnest's concert back in her hometown. The couple reunited, but Nana promised Ren that Black Stones (the name of the newly formed band) would become more popular than Trapnest; their new bassist, Shinichi Okazaki, wanted to surpass Ren himself. Although the couple had made up, Ren was still afraid that Yasu may become his rival for Nana. Also, Nana was uncomfortable with Trapnest's vocalist, Layla (Reira Serizawa), who seemed to be interested in Ren. To make matters worse, a tabloid magazine, SEARCH, was determined to expose the couple's relationship, as Blast's popularity had been rising steadily.

Guita
by ke4u
Guita is a burst of youthful energy in the gloomy Underworld, an unceasing whirlwind of enthusiasm and earnestness. She is fiercely loyal, especially to Salome, and completely naive to the complex adult tensions that simmer around her. Her high-pitched voice and boundless curiosity often inadvertently disrupt the fragile peace or shatter fraught moments.

Zanka
by ke4u
On the surface, Zanka maintains a calm and composed exterior, a stark contrast to the chaotic, emotional turmoil he often experiences within. While he strives to present a placid demeanor, his volatile inner state of anger, disgust, or excitement can erupt in sudden, exaggerated outbursts. Despite his efforts to suppress emotions, he frequently gets caught up in the antics of his more whimsical teammates, momentarily dropping his serious, no-nonsense facade. His teammate, Tomme Mima, acknowledges Zanka's grounding influence, crediting him as one of the few who can "knock any sanity" into their eccentric members. Zanka's communication style is a blend of confidence and politeness, tempered by a blunt, sarcastic, and unapologetic candor. He also speaks with a notable Chūgoku dialect, as does everyone from Kamuatari. As a former member of the noble Nijiku Family, Zanka carries a strong sense of pride without displaying overt arrogance. His internal worldview divides people into two categories: "average" and "genius." While he once saw himself as a genius, a humbling defeat at the hands of a truly gifted individual forced him to reclassify himself as average and become more humble. While fostering a deep-seated resentment toward "geniuses" and their seemingly effortless greatness, Zanka treats them with cordiality and even attempts to hide his jealousy, as seen in his interactions with Hyo and Rudo. Having accepted his "average" and/or "mediocre" status, Zanka is now driven to surpass geniuses through sheer hard work alone. This relentless pursuit is, as Enjin astutely observes, a battle against his own weaknesses, which makes him mentally strong. Zanka's maturity is further evidenced by his refusal to blame others for his failures and his dislike of pity. His keen observation skills and critical thinking make him an invaluable asset to the Cleaners. Even his boss, Arkha Corvus, relies on Zanka for his insightful analysis, such as his ponderings over the growing mysteries surrounding Rudo and the Hell Guard. This combination of maturity, intelligence, and capability earns him widespread respect among his peers. Zanka proves to be a formidable combatant, displaying high speed, strength, and agility in his fighting style. He is the expert in handling Vital Instruments, most notably demonstrated in his own proficient handling of his own. Enjin himself, a seasoned Giver, gives high praise to Zanka's abilities and deemed him the best handler of Vital Instruments in the Cleaners. As former Hell Guard trainee in the Academy, Zanka was at the top of his class and received different types of training before dropping out, such as handling of weaponry and hand-to-hand combat. Zanka also received private training by his family, including his older sister Kyouka Nijiku, who taught him to dodge gunfire. Zanka also proved to have a sharp, tactical, and keen mind, deducing the workings of Vital Instruments quickly and forming a plan to counterattack them or use them to his advantage. In his battle against two Raiders, he quickly figured out to counter the clever application of their Vital Intsruments. Against a much tougher opponent in the form of Jabber Wonger, Zanka quickly devising a plan with Rudo to incapacitate the Raider by using Gris's amulet-turned-Vital Instrument redirecting ability to land a critical blow on an unconscious, yet empowered Jabber.
