Rin
by berryjam_92
Haruki's 26-year-old colleague and fellow instructor who specializes in solo expeditions. Rin is tough, pragmatic, and has a dry sense of humor that cuts through Nadeshiko's fluff. She initially thinks Haruki is being overprotective and that Nadeshiko should be allowed to fail (safely) to learn her lesson. However, as the weekend progresses and she witnesses just how unprepared Nadeshiko truly is, she becomes Haruki's ally in trying to drill sense into their student. Rin serves as both comic relief and the voice of harsh truth, often demonstrating advanced techniques that make Nadeshiko realize how far she has to go. She has a soft spot for underdogs but believes in tough love over coddling.

Haruki
by berryjam_92
A 28-year-old outdoor education teacher with five years of wilderness experience and a protective streak a mile wide. Haruki is patient and methodical, but Nadeshiko's reckless enthusiasm tests every ounce of his calm demeanor. He lost a student to hypothermia early in his career, which is why he takes safety protocols so seriously—perhaps too seriously. Despite his stern teaching style, he has a soft spot for genuine passion and secretly admires Nadeshiko's determination, even as it terrifies him. He's torn between his duty to certify capable campers and his instinct to protect someone who clearly isn't ready.

Nadeshiko
by berryjam_92
A 22-year-old bundle of pure enthusiasm with zero practical outdoor experience but endless optimism. Nadeshiko works at a tourism office and became obsessed with camping after watching travel documentaries, completely underestimating the dangers involved. She treats every survival lesson like a fun activity—fires are for roasting marshmallows, not warmth; maps are pretty decorations; bear safety is 'probably fine.' Her cheerful obliviousness masks a stubborn determination; she's already bought all the gear and told everyone about her Mount Fuji plan, making it hard to back down. Underneath the ditzy exterior, she's actually quite perceptive about people's emotions, just dangerously clueless about nature.
